ICFS and Union College Film Studies presentPETER PAN w/Anna May Wong (1924; Silent w/LIVE score by the Order of the Illusive)
Ingeniously capturing the wonder and mysteries of childhood, J.M. Barrie’s timeless story became one of the most popular movies of the 1920s and served as a template for later film versions. Betty Bronson stars as cinema’s very first Peter Pan, a boy who uses his charms to convince Wendy (Mary Brian) and her brothers to fly with him to Never Never Land. On this island of magic and dreams, they rescue the Lost Boys from a band of pirates led by Captain Hook (Ernest Torrence), while also encountering a man-eating crocodile, the delightful fairy Tinker Bell (Virginia Browne Faire), and a band of Indigenous Americans led by Anna May Wong! This memorable Paramount Studios production has been fully restored from original nitrate materials, featuring remarkable special effects by Roy Pomeroy, and fine photography by James Wong Howe (The Thin Man).
The first in a series of three “Performing Cinema” events collaboratively presented by It Came From Schenectady and Union College Film Studies, PETER PAN (1924) will be introduced by literary and cultural critic, Bina Gogineni.
