Durham Ballet Theatre (DBT) is pleased to offer a free sensory-friendly performance featuring the 4th performance of the storybook ballet of Peter Pan based on the book by J.M. Barrie will be held at the Carolina Theatre on Friday evening, May 17, 2024.

This performance is open to audiences including both the young and the elderly, those with physical disabilities, cognitive and developmental disabilities, people from group homes and hospitals including their families and caregivers. In recent years we have added those who are economically challenged to our guest list.

This adventure begins at the London home of the Darling family, a typical evening in 1912, as the weary parents try to settle their children down for bed while the young ones insist on staying up late. Little do Wendy, John, and Michael know that a fantastic journey awaits them that night. Soon an impish shadow appears, whisking the children away to the magical world of Neverland, where Peter Pan, Captain Hook, the Lost Boys, Princess Tiger Lily, mermaids, pirates, and a hungry crocodile engage them in daring adventures filled with flying fairies, sword fights, rescues, and more.

As Peter himself might say, “To find out what happens next would be an awfully big adventure!”

ACCOMMODATIONS FOR THIS PERFORMANCE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

• Adjusted lighting and sound.
• Lower sound levels throughout the performance.
• Guests are free to talk, leave their seats, and move freely during the performance.
• A designated safe/quiet area in the theatre lobby
• The performers will come out to meet the audience after the show
• House lights will remain on (at a low level) in the theatre auditorium during the performance.
• Assisted listening devices available for the hearing impaired

RELAXED THEATER RULES:

• Doors will open at 5:45pm and seating will begin at 6:00pm.
• General admission seating is limited to 500 spaces and maximum with wheelchair seating of 20.

Please register as soon as possible for wheelchair seating. Your name, the number in your party and the number of wheel chair spaces required will be recorded for our guest list at the theatre door.

You should receive an email confirmation of your registration and there will be an option for etickets or to print out tickets. Please note that admission is via registration on guest list and the printed tickets/etickets are not required. There are no physical tickets to pick up for this performance.
