Peter Mulvey graces the Harmony stage on March 1, 2025, along with Ruth Theodore . Andrew Sue Wing will be opening for Peter. Over the past 20 years, Peter Mulvey has pursued a restless, eclectic path as a writer and musician – immersing himself in Tin Pan Alley jazz, modern acoustic, poetry, narrative, and Americana stylings. Relentlessly touring as a headliner – his attitude is, “When you love what you do, you can work all the time,” – he has also shared the stage with luminaries such as Emmylou Harris, Richard Thompson, Ani DiFranco, Indigo Girls, and Greg Brown, and has attracted an audience that stretches from Anchorage to Amsterdam.
Peter Mulvey began as a self-described “city kid” from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He played, wrote, and sang in bands while studying theatre, and then traveled to Dublin, Ireland, in 1989, where he learned the trade of the street singer. Returning to the States, he relocated to Boston and began making a living as a subway and street busker, as well as releasing the first few of many CDs. Within a couple years he took to the road full time.
Mulvey has a rare ability to hold an audience’s attention and transport them, using wit, humor, and a subtle but sophisticated melodic and harmonic sensibility to gracefully introduce complex and provocative concepts and characters.
Highlight of his recordings include 1995's "Rapture", "The Trouble With Poets" (produced by David Goodrich in 2000), 2004's "Kitchen Radio", the fan favorite "Notes from Elsewhere" (entirely solo versions of his songs) and recently, his collaborations with Chuck Prophet ("Silver Ladder"), Ani DiFranco ("Are You Listening?"), and Todd Sickafoose ( on his album with Sista Strings, "There Is Another World").
Joining Peter will be Ruth Theodore, Peter's labelmate on Righteous Babe Records! Ruth is a seasoned British songwriter and producer whose work fascinates audiences with its gripping honesty and distinctive lyricism. A cancer diagnosis and treatment throughout a global pandemic would have floored most human beings but even writing from the chemo chair, Ruth kept on creating and has emerged fearless from the flames with over two albums worth of new material and a tireless creative drive to share her perspectives through her renowned original art.
Performing over an array of unconventional guitar tunings, and obscure yet cunningly catchy piano, Ruth’s songs of life, death, love, the human condition, science and let’s face it… by now pretty much everything, are that of a skilled writer in command of, and having fun with, the idea of contemporary songwriting. Delivered with effortless unapologetic passion, Theodore’s live performances will take you places, make you laugh and cry and often both at once. Expect captivating vocal dexterity, musical prowess, disarming wisdom and poetic originality.
Having self produced three of her own critically acclaimed records to date, and following her most recent collaboration with award winning US producer and bassist Todd Sickafoose (Anais Mitchell/Ani Difranco), Ruth is back collaborating as co-producer with Todd and percussionist Mathias Kunzli (Regina Spektor, Lauryn Hill). Her 2024 release is "I am I am".
