We are gathering to honor the life of Peter Gainey — a beloved son and brother, devoted father, husband, friend, fisherman, and engineer — with a memorial at sea followed by a celebration of life in Port Aransas. As we lay Peter to rest in the waters he loved most, we invite you to join us in honoring his life and spirit. We will begin at sea, with a fleet assembling in the channel (exact timing is weather dependent so keep an eye out here for specifics as October 18th nears) to head offshore and spread Peter’s ashes. Guests are both welcome and encouraged to make their own arrangements to be on the water with us, though please note we cannot guarantee space for everyone on board. After we’ve reunited Peter with his first love (billfish-filled saltwater), we’ll return to Fisherman’s Wharf in Port Aransas to continue with a public celebration of life filled with laughter, stories, and community.
In memory of Peter’s signature style, we ask that you come dressed as he would have loved best — in your favorite wild Hawaiian shirts, bold patterns, and bright colors. May all the patterns clash wildly.
Details on offshore timing will follow as we keep an eye on the weather.
We look forward to sharing this day with you as we honor the man who gave us so much love, adventure, and laughter.
