Pete Atkin is a singer-songwriter known for his musical collaborations with Clive James, the TV personality and literary genius. He produced three classic albums in the early 1970s – ‘Beware of the Beautiful Stranger’, ‘Driving Through Mythical America’ and ‘A King at Nightfall’ - but, despite successful touring and critical acclaim, major record sales eluded him - due mainly to his record label focusing attention and resources on their star acts David Bowie & Lou Reed. Nevertheless, Pete and Clive’s music attained cult status to those in the know. Several more albums were produced in the 1970s but eventually Pete had to give in to punk & all that, and ‘get a proper job’ as a respected radio producer at the BBC.
Around the millennium, Pete and Clive's musical career was revived when they successfully toured together, combining Pete’s playing with Clive’s poetry and raconteuring. This led to several more CDs, including a live recording from their tour of Australia. Clive died in 2019 but Pete has continued to write and to reinterpret earlier songs, leading to more releases, including his latest ‘The Luck of the Draw’.
Pete only plays occasional gigs, and the upcoming one in Exeter promises to be a rare treat both for fans and for people new to his work in the South West.

Maconie described their collaboration to be the "best songwriting duo of recent years" - and Daniel Finkelstein referred to their songs as some of the "saddest, loveliest, strangest, funniest, cleverest and most irritatingly hummable" of his lifetime ...
