About this Event
This intimate session invites participants to slow down, observe closely, and experience how structure, balance, and negative space come together in Japanese floral art, while also exploring how these elements translate through the lens.
Led by Chieko Klerkx
The workshop is led by Chieko Klerkx, a Brisbane-based Ikebana artist whose work has been exhibited at Queensland Art Gallery / GoMA. Chieko brings many years of teaching experience from Queensland universities and is known for her calm, thoughtful approach to both beginners and experienced creatives.
What You’ll Experience
- An introduction to the principles and philosophy of Ikebana
- Hands-on creation of your own floral arrangement
- Guidance on observing form, texture, line, and detail
- Time to photograph arrangements using the Ricoh GR’s macro mode
- A relaxed, small-group setting with personalised instruction
All materials are provided, including:
- Fresh florals
- Vases
- Scissors and tools
Participants will take home the flowers from their arrangement at the end of the session.
