About Dr. Karen Hoffman
Growing up in Oxford Circle, Philadelphia, some of Dr. Hoffman's earliest memories include playing with her grandfather's dogs. Her desire to own a pet was so great that when she lost a tooth, she'd leave the tooth fairy a note asking her to leave a puppy instead of money.
Dr. Hoffman attended Wisconsin's Northland College and then transferred to the University of New Hampshire, where she earned her bachelor's degree in microbiology in 1981. She then attended Baylor College of Medicine in a post-doctoral virology study program. When a tragic accident took the life of her beloved first dog, Dr. Hoffman realized her true passion was veterinary medicine. She refocused her direction and earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1990 from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Hoffman has been working at Mount Laurel Animal Hospital and 24 hour Emergency Service since April 2006.
"Because most patients don't understand why they are at a veterinary hospital and are often frightened, I find making their experience less stressful and resolving their problems very satisfying," Dr. Hoffman says. "When I walk into an examination room, I always think to myself, 'How can I make this pet's life better?'"
Dr. Hoffman's professional interests are veterinary dentistry, internal medicine, and dermatology. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Delaware Valley Academy of Veterinary Medicine.
