About this Event
Perspectives Over Pints is a lecture series exploring the intersection of Utah and contemporary culture — from environment to industry to public life. Each talk delivers a straightforward look at what’s happening and why it matters. Come for the talk, stay for the pint, leave with a new perspective.
In this chapter we'll discuss how we lost community and what comes next. In an era of polarization, loneliness, and collapsing trust, people are still hungry for community but many are finding it in distorted forms: extremist movements, cult-like spaces, gangs, or online outrage cultures. This talk explores why humans are wired to seek belonging so deeply, how that need has been hijacked in our current social and political climate, and what it actually takes to rebuild healthy, ethical community without coercion or collapse. Drawing from indigenous wisdom, psychology, and sociology, we’ll look at how to recognize “mutated” community and how to collectively create something better.
Our featured speaker is Lianna Jean Manibog who founded The Threadwork Collective.
