About this Event
11th July: Persepolis - 2007 - Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi
Continuing with the animated style and politically charged themes from Flee, we’ve decided to pick one of our favourite animations.
Persepolis is the poignant coming of age story of a young girl in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Through the eyes of precocious and outspoken nine year old Marjane that we see a people's hopes dashed as fundamentalists take power - forcing the veil on women and imprisoning thousands. As she grows older Marjane reflects on her life and the thing that she has gone through.
Based upon Marjane Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novel of the same name. It premiered at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, where it co-won the Jury Prize and was selected as the French entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 80th Academy Awards, and was nominated for Best Animated Feature.
As always, ticket holders are privy to some insane drink deals and popcorn!
