Join Rose Eleusis, queer Persephone devotee and Hellenic Pagan community organizer, for a deep dive into the oldest version of Persephone’s most popular recorded myth. We all think we know the story of the missing girl, the six seeds, and the birth of the seasons. But why does Persephone play such a small role in the myth she’s most famous for? How does Demeter’s mourning at Eleusis reveal how ancient women survived the patriarchy? And what about the baby in the fireplace? Equal parts scholarship, social commentary, and poetic inspiration, this lecture and discussion provides new ways of connecting the ancients’ world to ours.
