PERNILLE BÉVORT & MATTIAS NILSSON
Pernille Bévort (DK) - tenor sax
Mattias Nilsson (SE) - piano
Bévort and Nilsson’s musical paths have been crossed many times but they have actually never performed together in a smaller setting, until now. Join us this Sunday afternoon as they will perform a superb and personal selection of their favourite songs from here, there and a everywhere.
PERNILLE BÉVORT is a graduate of the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, Denmark (1989-1993). After completing her degree, she has become increasingly in-demand as a member of various jazz ensembles in Denmark and Sweden.
“Bévort seems to avoid technical fireworks for their own sake, focusing instead on imbuing each piece with distinct character.” – JAZZ JOURNAL (UK)
Apart from working with small ensembles, Bévort has performed with several professional Big Bands in Denmark during the last decade: The Ernie Wilkins Almost Big Band, Kroner’s New Music Orchestra, The Danish Radio Big Band and the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra (Klüver’s Big Band) among others. As a member of The Ernie Wilkins Almost Big Band and as a frequent substitute with the Danish Radio Big Band, she has performed with many international artists. Among these are: Randy Brecker, Tony Coe, Putte Wickman, Tim Hagans, John Scofield and Richard Bona.
“Bévort tends to make every note count, striving for emotional effect over more facile pyrotechnic display.” – ALL ABOUT JAZZ (US)
Pernille Bévort has been awarded the prestigious Ben Webster Prize, the JASA prize and the LO’s Kunstnerlegat in acknowledgment of her work. Furthermore, Pernille has received several composer grants from The Danish Arts Foundation within the last decade. From 2011 untill 2013 she was a part of the committee for composer grants in the Danish Arts Foundation (the jury concerning rhythmic composers).

MATTIAS NILSSON (b. 1980), has with more than a thousand concerts in 32 countries around the world established himself as one of Sweden's most personal pianists with his very own voice. Nilsson incorporates the Nordic Vemod, with influences from classical, folk and jazz music. Through his improvisations and a very warm and personal approach, this becomes a unique expression and a musical landscape with completely new shades of color. It's not for no reason they call him the Swede with the warm Scandinavian touch.
"Mattias Nilsson rightfully fits into the genre of the great 'Nordic' pianists, that is to say those extraordinary musicians who have managed to produce original music characterized by the encounter between the jazz tradition and the particular humus of Northern Europe..." – A PROPOSTIO DI JAZZ (Italy)
“’Dreams Of Belonging’ is part of a continuum in which the improvisation of jazz and the freedom of interpretation are applied to different musical starting points. The more romantic side of classical music, folk music and direct nods to the core of traditional jazz expression…” – JAZZ POSSU (Finland)
