First Church and Parish Dedham invites classical music lovers to an afternoon fundraising concert of chamber ensemble music by Pernambuco on Sunday, November 16th at 3:00 pm in our Meetinghouse at 670 High Street, Dedham. Pernambuco is chamber ensemble featuring the following musicians: Shirie Leng, violin, Jessica Baum, viola, Judith Glixon, cello, Daniel Goodman, piano, and Michael Goldring, double bass and voice. Suggested donations are $20.French Impressions is Pernambuco’s 2025 Fall concert primarily featuring pieces by French composers. The concert also includes an original composition by cellist, Judith Glixon. Many of the pieces are in the shimmering French Impressionist style of Debussy, Ravel and Faure. Pernambuco has included two audience favorites from the period - an arrangement of Debussy's Clair de Lune for viola and piano, and of Faure's Pavane for piano trio. Also on the program are an early French trio sonata by Boismortier and a contrasting string trio by Russian composer Sergey Taneyev.
This is Pernambuco’s second concert this year at the First Church and Parish in Dedham. They are very happy that the Church invited us back to perform in their lovely sanctuary with good acoustics and an excellent piano. The Dedham space also has room for a larger audience than in our previous venues. Even though the sanctuary has plenty of seats, we are again requesting that audience members reserve their seats in advance and donate via EventBrite. Advance donations make the process of taking donations at the door much smoother.
Pernambuco wood has long been used in the making of string instrument bows, but is now an endangered species due to habitat loss in Brazil. We named our group Pernambuco because of our connections to pernambuco wood, our concern for the environment, and our love for the music of South America. Our benefit organization for this concert is the International Pernambuco Conservation Initiative, a partner of the International Alliance of Violin and Bow Makers for Endangered Species. These organizations are working to ensure the future of stringed instrument music by increasing knowledge of endangered pernambuco wood with research, replanting, educational outreach and conservation efforts.
We are pleased that the First Church and Parish in Dedham is supporting our benefit organization by sponsoring our November concert. Additional sponsors for this season include the West Falmouth Library and Congregation BethEl of Sudbury
