Perfume Smelling Session: Inspired by Literature (In Person)

The library at the Institute for Art and Olfaction contains a perfume archive of over a thousand fine fragrances, pieces of olfactory art, and more.

Join us for a guided smelling session of fragrance and olfactory art pieces inspired by works of literature, from classic fairytales to modern classics and perfume's most notorious novel. And, of course, we'll smell a few perfumes inspired by the scent of books themselves.

Scent strips will be handed out by your friendly Institute for Art and Olfaction team, and we will spend time smelling and discussing our impressions of these fragrances, with a focus on our individual impressions and how each fragrance adapts a work of literature. This smelling session will be a special opportunity to smell fine fragrances from our library archive that we otherwise do not allow everyday access to.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Trained in architecture and design, Minetta Rogers is the director of programs at the IAO and has been teaching newcomers to perfumery for almost a decade. Drawing inspiration from the design approaches that she learned through her studies in architecture and in the field, she brings an approach to education that is rooted in facts, curiosity supported by rigorous research, and design strategies.

We are located in Los Angeles’ historic Chinatown neighborhood, on a pedestrian street that also hosts galleries, souvenir shops, production companies, design studios, and two very cool parrots. Class size is limited. Please note that you must reserve your space in advance. If you just show up without reserving a spot, we will not be able to accommodate you.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL
All levels are welcome for this class. We require people to be 18 and up to attend.

ATTENDANCE AND CANCELLATION POLICY
Event tickets are non-transferable.
Cancellation with refund or credit requests made 1 week or more (7 days) before the scheduled session will be honored in full.
Refunds or class credits requested less than 7 days before the scheduled session: We will refund you 50% of your class fee.
Refunds or class credits requested less than 48 hours before the class, on the day of the class or after the class has happened will not be granted.
