Percussion Discussion
Percussion Discussion Afrika was founded in 1997, by Uganda’s legendary percussionist Herman Ssewanyana and quickly gained popularity in the county’s capital performing at high profile events and functions. By 1999, Percussion Discussion Afrika was a house hold name in Kampala with a sound that hadn’t been heard before, attracting a diverse range of fans. Their music is led by the melodic sound of traditional drums, accompanied by the Adungu, a Ugandan traditional harp from northern Uganda and a fusion with modern instruments.
Percussion Discussion Afrika’s debut album Omubala was number one on the internet charts in the US for close to a year and their second album Mulamu took Kampala by storm, taking them to the pinnacle and winning a Pan African Music award as the best folk pop group. Their track Nakawunde is featured on the globally acclaimed film; The last king of Scotland by Forest Whitaker.
The group has toured extensively all over Africa, middle east and Europe, showcasing the diverse sounds of east Africa while advancing their hybrid new sound. They continue to perform locally in Uganda and strive to reach new audiences worldwide.
