About this Event

If you are between 14 and 19 years of age and live in Barking & Daggenham and would like to be in with a chance of winning a trip to the Venice Biennial, then we encourage you to sign up and take part in our weekend design workshop.

By taking part in this weekend workshop, you will gain architectural, design and communication skills and gain access to a full programme of free skills workshops during the Easter holidays.

You do not need to have ANY previous experience, if you’re sitting at home thinking, I want to get involved but I don’t think it’s for me, then think again, we want YOU to get involved!

•To be in with a chance to win, you must attend the Saturday AND Sunday workshop.

Design Competition Workshop Weekend Schedule:

Saturday; you will work with our architecture and engineer team, comprising of Scale Rule CIC and a collective of architects and architecture graduates from across London. You will learn how to create a concept design, taking the ideas in your mind and turning them into a vision of the paper. You will make models of your designs, sketch plans and learn about sustainable design. There will be a series of Q&A’s throughout the day.

Sunday; get ready to pitch your design ideas. In the morning you will work with Fourth Monkey Actor Training Company, who will work with you to develop your communication skills ready to pitch your design concepts. In the afternoon you’ll get time to review your designs within your teams before you pitch to the judging panel.

A panel of professional judges will select a design team from each of the East London boroughs (7 teams in total) and those teams will be invited to develop their design ideas further (but don’t worry, even if you are not selected, you can still gain access to our Easter Skills programme.

The People’s Pavilion project has been created to flip the script on who gets a say in the design of public space. This project invites young people, to work in partnership with professionals from the design, engineering and construction industries to design and build their own space (Pavilion). All shortlisted designs will be shown at a public exhibition on London’s Here East Campus which sits within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
