What is an Atlas for? Who makes them? Why does it matter?Maps of the way we move in our communities look very different for someone driving a car, someone taking the bus, someone walking a dog, a pickpocket, children on a treasure hunt, and pigeons. (And pigeons are just drunk squirrels who think they can fly...so, that's another atlas of sorts)
The People’s Atlas of the Future examines the history of the community and how it informs our place in it today, and allows us to dream about what we want to make in the future!
This first Atlas includes a talk by historian Phil Goodstein about the 1924 election where Denver residents elected the KKK to power, an itty-bitty walking tour by herbalist Asia Dorsey celebrating weeds and the unseen life on our streets and below our feet, a circus performance by Yupi, a newcomer to Denver from Venezuela, poetic scribing about the stars and the equinox by Molina Speaks, dreamscape music by saxophone/pedal loop artist Diogenese Dreamer, and of course, delicious tea and cookies served for all who take part!
Time is central to this experience so do your best to arrive as close to the start as possible and we hope to end by sunset.
This is a family-friendly program, let us know if interpretation or translation is needed, and all aspects of the Atlas are ADA accessible. There will be about 2-3 blocks of movement and then we have comfy couches and chairs back at the space!
