The Pentland Floating Offshore Wind Farm will be the largest floating offshore wind farm in the world once completed.
Located 7.5km north off the coast of Dounreay in Caithness, the development will be capable of providing clean energy to approximately 70,000 homes and and is key to advancing the deployment of large-scale floating offshore wind.
The wind farm is planned to be operational in 2026. It will showcase new floating wind technology within Scotland and across the UK. The exact floating technological solutions for the project are yet to be announced but a key consideration is building on existing technical expertise in Scotland and the UK to maximise the opportunity to local supply chains and communities.
The project is being developed by Highland Wind Limited which is majority owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through one of its funds. Project development activities are being led by CIP’s development partner, Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP).
