About this Event

Join us for an inspiring and interactive evening of writing and feedback at Lovestruck Books!

Are you a writer looking to refine your craft and connect with others in the literary community? Whether you're working on a novel, short story, or any other writing project, this workshop is designed to help you grow as a writer through creative prompts, constructive feedback, and engaging discussions.

Emily Goyanes, the Lead Bookseller at Lovestruck Books and an emerging voice in the publishing world, will guide this writer's circle. Emily is a recent graduate of UC Irvine with a BA in English and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Publishing and Writing at Emerson College. With a passion for books and a deep love for the craft of writing, she is excited to provide a supportive space for both aspiring and established writers.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Creative Prompts & Writing Time: Emily will share 2-3 writing prompts at the start of the workshop. You can choose to write based on the prompts or work on your own project for 45 minutes. Prompts will also be posted in advance on our , so you’re welcome to get a head start on your writing! Whether you're a planner or a pantser, this is your time to create and explore your ideas!
  • Group Feedback Sessions: After writing, we’ll break into small groups of 2-3. Each participant will read their piece (up to 1,500 words) aloud for 10 minutes, followed by a constructive feedback session. The focus will be on plot, structure, and flow—helping you develop your story and writing skills, with developmental edits rather than copyediting. We encourage people to continue working on their stories outside of the workshop as well and would love to see people return.
  • Inclusive, Supportive Atmosphere: Emily will circulate during the feedback sessions to encourage thoughtful and constructive feedback, offering insights on how to strengthen your writing.
  • Virtual Participation: Can't join us in person? No worries! Writers can share their work in our and offer feedback on each other’s writing from anywhere. No RSVP is required for virtual participation.

Disclaimer: We are committed to creating a respectful and supportive environment at this workshop. Disrespectful behavior, either during workshopping or in written contributions, will not be tolerated. Anyone not adhering to this standard may be asked to leave at the discretion of the organizers.

Thank you for helping make this a positive space for all!
