About this Event

This 3-day certification course is the primary initial course for peer support personnel introducing the concepts of peer support programming, psychological first aid skills, protocols, and tools for groups and individuals. This is an interactive, participative workshop that equips peers to provide acute crisis intervention for their colleagues.

We will explore resiliency tools and intervention models such as SAFER-R, Defusing, Crisis Management Briefing, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, and Post-Action Staff Support.

Sponsored by Idaho Falls Police Dept.

Facilitator Kristin L. Cox, MA is currently the Behavioral Health Coordinator for the Seattle Fire Department, providing oversight to SFD’s Peer Support team and developing pre/inter/post-vention programs to help firefighters and their families cope with stress, mental health and crisis situations.

Kristin comes to SFD after a 30-plus year career with the U.S. Coast Guard as a Work-Life Supervisor/Employee Assistance Program Coordinator and an independent consultant in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Her special focus is collaborating with leaders and groups to boost resilience to stress and facilitate healing from challenging circumstances.

She is certified as an instructor for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and the Livingworks, Inc Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.

Kristin is credentialed by the National Organization of Victim Advocacy as an Advanced Victim Advocate.
