The iconic themes from Grieg’s Peer Gynt suites, among the most recognizable in the symphonic repertoire, set the stage for this emotionally charged and narrative-driven concert. When composing the incidental music for Henrik Ibsen’s play Peer Gynt, Edvard Grieg established himself as Norway’s foremost composer, thanks to the vivid expressiveness of his music.
Unlike Grieg’s programmatic storytelling, Max Bruch’s First Violin Concerto captivates with its lyrical beauty and dazzling virtuosity.
While Sibelius is best known for his Violin Concerto, he was also a master symphonist. His Second Symphony is a deeply stirring work filled with heroism, often compared to Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony, the "Pathétique".
