On the first Sunday of every month, visitors can enjoy free admission to the Barnes, plus fun art activities, performances, and free access to the collection and Mickalene Thomas: All About Love.
This month, we’re taking a moment to reflect on an art-filled year. Drawing inspiration from the reflective, iridescent, and jeweled works in our special exhibition All About Love, we’re inviting art lovers of all ages to help us celebrate innovation, creativity, and community. Along with art making, storytime, and our signature Barnes scavenger hunt, this month’s event features special performances by Philly’s beloved dance troupe Philadanco! The Philadelphia Dance Company.
🎨 Art Activities | 10am-4 pm
Join us for art activities and explore the collection through our scavenger hunt to claim your special prize! Perfect for the whole family—ages 2 and up.
📚 Storytelling | 10:30am–11am & 11:15am–11:45am
Join us for an interactive storytime and fun—ages 2 and up.
🩰 PHILADANCO | 1pm-1:45 pm & 2:30pm-3:15 pm
This month, experience the Philadelphia Dance Company. Celebrated for its innovation, creativity, and preservation of African-American dance traditions, PHILADANCO cultivates the skills of emerging and professional dancers and choreographers in a nurturing environment while increasing the appreciation of dance among its many communities.
These performances will feature two groups: PHILADANCO’s apprentice company (ages 15–23) and their youth ensemble (ages 13–16). The dancers are selected through an extensive evaluation process and train in professional-level classes. Since 2006, these ensembles have offered young dancers access to performance opportunities to develop their technique.
