Metalines Studios and Queens Bar and Coffee House Present...PEACOCK FREAKSHOW, bringing Prog Rock to the East Riding Of Yorkshire!
Prepare yourselves for a rambunctious evening of Progressive Rock and copious amounts of drollery from 5 amazing artists from around the country! Headliners SEAS OF MIRTH, Sweetpool, Argham, Cowfish and Janata!
SEAS OF MIRTH
Seas of Mirth have been stamping their own mark on modern music for the last decade, mixing up styles and genres while also being known for their aquatic twist. The band’s sound has been taken to a new level on their fourth album Kriller – out now. Recorded once more at London's Total Refreshment Centre by producer Capitol K (known for his work with The Comet Is Coming, Flamingods, Alabaster dePlume) this is a deep-ocean inspired ode to nightlife, community, creativity and the state of the marine environment.
With an extensive instrumental checklist intact, the sonic span widens into areas of psyche, dark funk, jazz, disco, ambient, latin, club beats and chime-pop. The prog-folk elements remain from their first three records, but this time around, comparisons have been made to the likes of Cardiacs, Stereolab, Talking Heads, Parliament/Funkadelic, Gong, Moulettes, Henge, Animal Collective, King Gizzard and Frank Zappa.
Live, there is a huge emphasis to bring the tunes to life in an enthralling sensory experience, made possible with big luminous sea creature props emerging through the course of the set, and various interactive opportunities for the crowd – this may even include a tug of war! Throughout the last couple of years, Seas Of Mirth have played at festivals such as Glastonbury, Bearded Theory, Lindisfarne, Nozstock, Boomtown, Isle Of Wight, Solfest, Moovin and Equinox as well as a number of UK tours to much acclaim.
SWEETPOOL
Sweetpool create a thrilling, intense melting pot of psychedelic punk, flamenco and space noises - but this isn’t just noise for the sake of noise - they love a proper tune. Think Can, Hawkwind, Pigbros, even The Groundhogs, hurled together with a dose of post punk. Songs like ‘In Winter’ and ‘Back to the Factory’ happily fly off into almost trance like repetition, powered by a pulsating rhythm section alongside the drone of what they call the ‘E pedal’ and augmented by bubbling synths. Then there’s the three minute angular pop of ‘Here Are the Stones’. Genres are made to be ignored. Preconceptions are made to be shattered.
ARGHAM
Described by one review as a "Korg driven psych out machine" Progressive Group Argham was formed in East Yorkshire in 2022 with one mission to blend monster belting riffs with melodies and beats to an ethereal landscape. Mashing up genres and styles from across the ages into a wall of sound that never gets old !
Having played the local circuit of Yorkshire for 3 years they are now stretching out into the neighbouring counties of the Midlands and the East coast and are currently in the process of preparing for a new EP!
COWFISH
Cowfish put together by Tim O'connor back in the mysterious era known as the 90's. He had one mission in mind to melt fine tuned lyrics to earth shattering riffage with whit and charm unparalleled!!!
JANATA
Hailing from Leeds, Janata are inspired by progressive rock, often combining catchy guitar riffs and vocal melodies with chaotic and abrasive musical passages. Their primary influences include King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Yes, and King Crimson. They have been gigging around Leeds since 2024, playing venues such as Lending Room, Upstairs at The Packhorse, and Duck and Drake.
