Second, in addition to being Black History Month, February has been deemed by Asheville City Council to be Love Asheville/Go Local Asheville Month, encouraging people to support local businesses, including of course those that are black-owned. Here's what, as an Asheville native, Chef Clarence has to say, “Black history month gives us the opportunity to reflect on how resilience plays a major part in our everyday life. Knowing how Urban Renewal took out several businesses and homes in the sixties Asheville holds this day to heart. Pushing with more than 85 growing black businesses every day we're building for a new beginning and at the same time never forgetting where we came from. With our history we should continue to educate for generational wealth, health and success for days to come. Staying United in the process. Lastly, we want to give a huge shout to Go Local Asheville, which is putting in incredible work for the whole local small business community in WNC. In addition to that, they are contributing tens of thousands of dollars every year toward education. The Hop is grateful to be one of the original members of the Go Local Card and continue to work together to strengthen that relationship every year.
