ABOUT PEACE MEAL:
For 10 years, an organization called Art of Peace Tyler celebrated the Unitied Nations International Day of Peace (September 21) by hosted a variety of events to promote a spirit of creativity, compassion and community through partnerships, fellowship, dialogue, social action, music, poetry and art. This included an annual "PEACE MEAL" where folks from different faiths, perspectives and walks of life could gather around the table for a shared meal.
Although Art of Peace no longer exists formally as an organization, several community-minded folks are working together to have another PEACE MEAL this year. We believe that now, in a time of deep division and polarization, it is more important than ever for us to cross the difference divide to fellowship together as neighbors and friends.
To this end, we'll come to the table together on Wednesday, November 20 at 6pm at First Christian Church in Tyler, TX for a new, reimagined PEACE MEAL. Some of the same community leaders and artists who were part of Art of Peace will be present to participate in the event. It's a great chance to gather with friends old and new in the spirit of peace, love and mutual understanding.
The meal will be catered by local Tyler restaurant Tiba Grill. The cost is $15 per person. All proceeds from the event will go toward a Welcome Corps project to resettle refugee families. Learn more at www.welcomecorps.org.
ABOUT OPEN TABLE FAITH:
Open Table Faith is a ministry of First Christian Church in Tyler, TX, that exists to create safe and brave spaces for honest conversation about God and faith; to cultivate authentic community for spiritual refugees; to facilitate spiritual exploration and ecumenical/interfaith dialogue; and to encourage compassionate action together in our world. We do this through book clubs, storytelling nights, beer & theology conversations, lectures, ecumenical/interfaith dialogue, an Annual Gathering, and whatever else we can dream up!
