About this Event
Youth ages 6-12 are invited to the gallery for a full day of hands-on artmaking, exhibition tours, and outdoor activities. Each PD Day focuses on a different artistic technique and medium, giving participants the chance to learn new skills, explore the galleries, and spark their imagination in our education studio!
The program is led by AWE’s team of Artist Educators and includes both guided and self-guided activities. Our programs include art-making activities in the studio, guided lessons, lunch and snack break and outdoor play.
October 17: Sculpture Studio
Carve, mold, twist, bend, build, and construct using clay, wire, and found materials! Campers will explore hands-on techniques to create sculptures that move, transform, and tell a story.
Campers will learn how to sculpt clay using tools, design abstract kinetic wire sculptures, and assemble mixed-media pieces using found objects. They will also explore the current exhibitions looking for inspiration from sculptures found in the gallery.
What You’ll Learn:
- Sculpting with clay: Mold, carve, and shape your ideas into tangible 3D forms.
- Abstract kinetic wire sculptures: Experiment with wire to create moving, interactive sculptures that move and sway.
- Mixed-media assemblage: Combine everyday objects, recycled materials, and artistic elements to craft unique, expressive sculptures.
- And so much more: creative problem-solving, sculpture games, exhibition tours, and collaborative games.
