About this Event
These workshops will be led by PCC faculty and student mentors dedicated to providing you with an enriching experience.
Join us at PCC for an exploration of diverse fields in the Geosciences. Tour the Mineral Museum, use specialized microscopes, and fly a drone! Learn how minerals form, how they are transformed by intense physical forces, and how details of the minerals in a rock allow observers to reconstruct a deep and intricate history of that rock. Get experience with the petrographic microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and x-ray fluorescence device (XRF) that allow observers to analyze minerals in exciting ways. Also spend time outside and learn how to operate a research drone to collect geographic data while you tour PCC. Stick around a bit afterwards because as Geoscience STEM Saturday concludes, PCC’s Centennial Kickoff Celebration begins!
[Note: some of the day’s activities will be similar to those in previous Geoscience STEM Saturday events.]
This FREE EVENT is for high school students (one parent/guardian per student is welcome to join). There is no cost to attend but space is limited - register early! Register for as many Saturdays as you’d like.
The event begins at 9am and ends at noon.
An official registration packet will be sent a week prior to each STEM Saturday event via email.
