The great folks at Sobel's are helping Rotary of Westmoreland to raise money for a project that will allow the club to purchase 2 highly trained service dogs from Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs for local veterans with PTSD. There is no admission cost and is open to the public. There will be a live band, food truck, raffle baskets, strip tickets, 50/50, and service dogs in attendance as well as more information about Rotary of Westmoreland, Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, and the grant needed to help fund this project.
The training and care that goes into these invaluable service dogs costs $25K per dog, so this fundraiser will help them raise matching funds in order to apply for a matching grant.
Why medical service dogs? On average, 22 of our veterans are dying by suicide every day. It's tragic, heartbreaking, and unnecessary. Since its inception 15 years ago, Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs has had zero participants experience death by suicide. Rotary of Westmoreland wants to help continue this work, generate more support and awareness for this organization, and save the lives our veterans.
