About this Event

Pattern Cutting Skills – Follow on – Over garment or Jacket

Mary-Louise will teach you how to take a basic bodice block and turn it into an over garment such as a waistcoat or jacket.

Ideally you will already have a bodice block that fits you from having completed the two or three day pattern cutting course to create a dress that fits your unique shape. However if you do not have this you will be able to use a standard size block instead, but please note that time will not be given to creating a personal fit from this.

You can expect through practical activities in both paper and fabric to learn the following pattern cutting principles

Adjusting the fit to allow for more design ease including altering the neckline, shoulder and armhole to accommodate garments being worn underneath.

Adjusting the fit to allow for more design ease including altering the neckline, shoulder, armhole waist and hip, to create a less fitted style.

How to create a facing. To make changes to a basic facing to create a better fit and finish.

How to change move a dart and how to change it into a seamline.

How to create a neckline shape and add a simple collar.

Turn a block into a pattern with the addition of seam and hem allowances, grainlines, balance points and matching notches.

You may get the opportunity to mock up small aspects of your design depending upon what you decide to make your main focus for the day.
