It's time to mark your calendars for the next Patron Saints of Influence literary event on Sunday, September 14, 5PM, at Shady Oak Barrel House! This will be quite an event indeed ✨For our fall reading + open mic, we will honor Diane di Prima and the Women of the Beat Generation with an amazing lineup of writers. Featured readers Joel Gonzalez, Kelechi Ubozoh, and Lin Marie deVincent will share their work, plus historical insights will be provided by poet and writer Gayle Leyton. Come early if you want to sign up for the open mic!
Artist and librarian Amanda Tomlin will also host a chapbook workshop starting at 3:30PM, so come extra early if you want to learn about chapbook creation and how to use discarded books to build your own.
About the featured readers:
Joel Gonzalez is a writer who lives in San Francisco. He graduated with an M.F.A. from San Francisco State University. He is currently a Union Organizer for the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. Joel can be found performing at open-mics around the North Bay. Joel enjoys sitting on the couch as well as waking up at 5 a.m. for a run.
Kelechi Ubozoh is a Nigerian-American writer and mental health advocate blending storytelling and activism to explore trauma, race, and healing. A Pushcart Prize nominee and co-author of We’ve Been Too Patient—now an audiobook—her work appears in sPARKLE & bLINK, Argot Magazine, Multiplicity, Trauma, Tresses & Truth: Untangling Our Hair Through Personal Narrative and more. Lin Marie deVincent aka elemdeevee is the Valley Poet on the Beat for community radio KSVY in the City of Sonoma. She creates a weekly literary segment on the Thursday Morning Show, w/ host Ronny Joe Grooms. Her poetry collection, SKY FISHING, was published by Running Wolf Press and is available at Readers Books. She co-produced a monthly Open Mic Salon at the Sonoma Community Center for 7 years (2000-07) and was the Sonoma Cultural and Fine Arts Commissioner 2004-06.
