Morning Session (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) Live Demo with a Model
Patrick Michael Reeves will begin the workshop with a three-hour portrait painting demonstration, using a live model to guide participants through the foundational steps of portraiture. He will focus on simplifying the process by teaching essential techniques for proportion, light and shadow, skin tones, and expression. Emphasis will be placed on removing the fear of "getting it wrong" by embracing a systematic approach to portraits.
Topics covered during the demo include:
• Blocking in the portrait
• Capturing accurate proportions and likeness
• Understanding values and color mixing for skin tones
• Brushwork and blending techniques for a natural look
Lunch Break (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM)
Participants will have a one-hour break to rest, recharge,
and discuss the morning session. A light lunch will be provided.
Afternoon Session (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
Hands-On Painting & Critique
The afternoon session will allow participants to create their own portrait using the live model and applying the techniques learned from the morning demonstration. Patrick will provide one-on-one instruction, offering individual critiques and helping each artist improve their portrait skills. Participants are encouraged to take creative risks, knowing they have the support of an experienced mentor to guide them through challenges. The session will close with a group critique, where artists can share their work and receive constructive feedback, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
