Patrice and Garry, a disabled couple in their 50s, are engaged. Excited about their future as a married couple, the pair learns that if they were to get married, they would both lose the government benefits that support their lives in an ableist society. Now at the frontlines of the next phase of marriage equality, Patrice and Garry decide to hold a commitment ceremony in spite of the risk. Spanning observational documentary and playful theatrical reenactments, Patrice: The Movie is a vital portrait of love amidst systematic failures. This screening will be followed by a panel discussion as part of MU Disability Culture Month.
Patrice: The Movie will screen with open captions and audio description for all attendees. ASL interpretation will also be provided.
