Spend some weeks with the history of women's activism for the right to vote and political representation in the United States.
About this Event

This Verso University three-part series will consider the history of women's activism for the right to vote and political representation in the United States. How did we get where we are today? Part I will examine the suffrage campaign in the nineteenth century and early work on the part of women inside and outside of Connecticut to secure greater opportunity in the public sector. Part II will explore the work of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (forerunner to the League of Women Voters) to secure the right to vote for women in the early twentieth century within the changing realities of the industrial world. Part III will focus on the activism of the National Woman's Party in the final years of the suffrage movement during World War I and conclude with an exploration of the LWV and NWP's work after 1920 that helped better integrate women into politics.

Copies of Dr. Marino's new book, Votes for College Women: Alumni, Students, and the Woman Suffrage Campaign will be available to purchase at the first class.

Dr. Kelly Marino is a historian of 20th century America with a focus on women’s history and the history of sexuality. A native of Connecticut, she is also passionate about state and local history.
