Back by popular demand! Ballet Folklorico de Chicago would like to invite you to our next edition of Tradiciones de Mexico. Last year we celebrated our first pastorela and had overwhelming feedback to do it again this year! For those that are not aware, a Pastorela is a nativity play/production performed right before Christmas. Here you will see the portrayal of the "Pasotres" (Shepherds) on the way to the birth of Jesus. They are guided by a star and come in contact with with key characters and animals. They are faced with moral dilemas that want to take them off of their path, but the lead shepherd tries to fight them off. Various themes are depicted throughout the production.
In Mexico this is a yearly tradition that is presented at the end of each year, before students leave for the holiday break. It is a special time that is celebrated together with family and friends. Ballet Folklorico de Chicago will continue to honor this tradition and add a twist by including our own special touches of humor, creativity and of course, dances from various Mexican regions.
