The Passport series offers drummers a chance to build skills, explore new rhythms, and enjoy playing with a dynamic group of fellow drummers. Open to all skill levels, these classes are designed for anyone to join at any point in the series. If you’re familiar with Bountou, you already know that each class is engaging and packed with valuable content!Foundational rhythms are essential for all students, as they contain key elements of West African music—such as timing, hand techniques, patterns, and rhythms—that serve as building blocks for deeper learning.
In the Foundational Rhythms class, we will cover:
*The history of each rhythm
*Djembe and Dunun parts
*Rudiments and techniques for enhanced sound
*Reading and writing djembe/dunun music
*And much more!

Bring your djembe, and/or dununs (there will be a few extra if you don't have a dunun), water bottle, and get ready to have fun!
There will be a lunch break, you can bring a lunch or go to one of the many restaurants in the surrounding area.
The incredibly talented and entertaining Robin Bountourabi Leftwich from High Point, NC, brings a perfect mix of instruction and humor to every class. Bring your djembes and as many dununs as you can handle—some participants even bring ballet sets and more! These classes are always a blast, and it's incredible how much you can learn in just one day of fun!
The Passport Series is an in-depth course that delves into rhythms, techniques, ballet dunun playing, complex meters, traditional and improvisational solos, and more. While we recommend attending each workshop in order for the best learning experience, it's not mandatory.
