Sacks & Bird is thrilled to announce 'Passages', a group show bringing together four artists from across the UK - Katie Mawson, Jasper Cheng, Vivien Thomason and Carol Douglas - working with paint and textiles. These works explore the way the realms of imagination and representation intertwine with our concept of reality.
Please join us on April 4th (6 - 9pm) for our opening night. This will be a special opportunity to meet the artists in person and see affordable art in the heart of Hackney.
We are located on Shipton Street (E2 7RZ). Follow the postcode to our door.
'Passages' will run from March 31st to April 28th, 2024.
About the Exhibition
What significance do the worlds of imagination and representation have within the tapestry of our existence? How do dreams and memories intertwine with our concept of reality? Society often diminishes their importance, relegating them to realms of lesser truth and validity. What insights might we glean if we were to earnestly explore these domains?
The works displayed in this exhibition are characterised by an atmospheric realism. They skilfully capture the tangible details of their subject matter. However, the use of a muted or subdued palette, subtle blending, and a soft focus, create atmospheres of ambiguity and obscurity. In this way, the artists are able to explore the different 'passages' between the realms of imagination, representation, dreams, and reality.
‘Passages’ extends an invitation to transcend the confines of habitual perception, urging viewers to embrace the sensation of venturing into places unknown – an immense world of delight.
