Hosted in the Local History Room 2nd Floor. Join Jeff Lapides in examining the fascinating life, photographs, and accomplishments of Rudolph d’Heureuse. A German immigrant, d’Heureuse was a civil and mining engineer, surveyor, cartographer, oenologist, and inventor. The photographic trailblazer was the deputy surveyor for Kern County in the mid 1860s. His talents were many, including creating a plat map for the county seat, Havilah. Prior to that, he surveyed, mapped, andphotographed the Mojave Road. Jeff Lapides is a California photographer and book designer. His previous book designs include Elizabeth Pomeroy’s San Marino: A Centennial History, and Michele Zack’s Southern California Story: Seeking the Better Life in Sierra Madre, and John Robinson’s, Gateways
to Southern California. There will be a book giveaway and signing at the end of the event! Free and open to the public!
