October is FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH IN GA
Dear Kababayan,
“Ang Pasko ay Sumapit“ … Christmas Season will be around the corner before we know it. As Filipino tradition dictates, preparations start soon as the months ending in the syllable “ber” starts. Soooooo here we go.
On behalf of the Filipino American History Month Committee, Venus Soriano and I extend an invitation to your organization to participate in the Parol Making Contest slated for Saturday, October 29, 2022.
The following prizes are at stake:
Grand Prize: $300 - will be displayed as Tree Topper of the Philippine Christmas Tree in Fernbank’s Winter Wonderland
Second Prize: $200
Third Prize: $150
PASKONG PILIPINO SA ATLANTA: PAROL MAKING CONTEST
CONTEST GUIDELINES
1. Entries must be made of recyclable and indigenous materials ONLY.
2. Any individual residing in Georgia may apply.
3. Registration Forms must be filled and emailed to [email protected] no later than September 29, 2022.
4. Parol Design must reflect the contest theme “Handog ng Pag-asa” (Gift of Hope)
5. Parol entries may either be in the traditional 5 point star design with 2 tails or in modern and innovative stylized star concept. Entries must be handmade and crafted only in Georgia.
6. Size must not exceed 2 feet in diameter and no greater than 2 feet in depth. It must hang easily from a bamboo pole or propped up easily as a tree topper.
7. Attaching lights is optional. However, lights in the winning entry will not be lit during Fernbank’s Winter Wonderland due to Museum’s policies and procedures.
8. Entries may be colorful but not use any commercial paint.
9. Each registered participant shall submit a photo of the official entry no later than October 15, 2022 to Isa Thompson ([email protected]).
10. Final Judging shall be done on Saturday October 29, 2022 by preselected judges. The First Prize winner will be featured as the Philippines’ Christmas Tree Topper at Fernbank Museum’s 2022 Winter Wonderland.
13. Organizations can take home their parols except for the Grand Prize winner which will be displayed for the duration of Fernbank’s Winter Wonderland. The winning parol will be returned in January 2023.
14. CRITERIA FOR JUDGING
a) ORIGINALITY: Relevance to the Theme - 30 %
b) CREATIVITY: Colorfulness, Creative Utilization of Recyclable/indigenous materials - 30%
c) PRESENTATION - 20%
d) WORKMANSHIP: Entry reflects degree of artistic and technical skills by artist, quality and craftsmanship - 20 %
