The Golden Shore presents highlights from Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil, one of the great a cappella choral works of all time, and new music that explores the ideas of displacement and exile, including works by Carloline Mallonee and Marques L. A. Garrett and world premieres by Jeffrey Bernstein and Vera Ivanova (herself, like Rachmaninoff, a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory). In 1917, just two years after he composed the All-Night Vigil, revolution forced Rachmaninoff to flee his beloved Russia, eventually settling in Beverly Hills. To his great sorrow, he would never again see Russian soil, but the music he composed there defined his career and his legacy in the City of Angels.
