“I Believe” is an exploration of faith and hope, and a celebration of the profound musical contributions of two Black American composers. The program opens with original arrangements of spirituals by Michal Dawson Connor, an Altadena-based composer, including “My Lord, What a Morning” and “There Is a Balm in Gilead.” Following these, the Chorale will perform Margaret Bonds’ Credo, a work of conviction and hope, with a strong vision of social justice, based on the eponymous poem by W.E.B. DuBois. The concert honors a rich tradition of resilience, belief, and spiritual reflection—offering an evening of music that is both moving and meaningful.
