Please join us, on any human powered vehicle, on a ride in the peaks.what should I expect?
to ride with people, on a relatively flat and very picturesque, ex-railway trail. we will be stopping periodically to "open the bar."
Who can come?
Anybody on a human powered vehicle. Bicycles and unicycles will likely make up the majority of vehicles there, but big wheel scooters, tandems, and other odd transport welcome. Roller skates are welcome, but not advised. Much of this route is made up of compact gravel, so larger wheels, in general, are advised.
I don't drink. Can I come?
Of course you can. Soft drinks will be available from "the bar." Be prepared to deal with drunken and foolish behaviour around you though.
Can my child come?
Due to the nature of the event, it's strongly advised not to bring younger children. There will be alcohol consumption, fruity language, and this isn't generally an event catered to children. This said, we won't exclude anybody. You're the parent, make your own decisions.
Can my dog come?
Due to the nature of dogs (somewhat unpredictable) and the nature of drunks on unicycles and bikes (also somewhat unpredictable,) bringing dogs is strongly discouraged. At the end of the day, this is occurring on a public trail, and again, we don't exclude, but dogs/leads getting under wheels can cause significant danger and injuries to everybody involved.
If your dog doesn't sit in the basket of your bike, probably leave them at home.
What is "the bar" you keep mentioning?
"The bar" will be a bicycle trailer. It will be stocked with basic drinks (TBC.)
I don't like anything you're serving at the bar. What can I do?
While the bar will supply a limited amount of drinks in a cooler, you are more than welcome to bring your own drinks of choice. If you speak nicely to the man pedaling the bar, he might let you put some of your drinks in the cooler, but be prepared to carry everything you're bringing, the bar is already heavy!
How much is this event?
FREE! this event is free to attend.
That said, the organisers are poor, and if the turn out is anticipated to be exceptional, they might need help stocking "the bar."
You can help them by bringing some of what you'd like to consume on the ride.
Have you got insurance?
Nah. We are just a bunch of friends getting together for fun. The organisers accept no responsibility for any injuries or losses occured directly or indirectly as a result of attending this event. In participating in this event, you are agreeing to look after yourself, each other, and just have good vibes, generally. You are responsible for yourself, your actions, and your own alcohol intake.
What about facilities? Lunch?
There is a small cafe along the route, but opening times are unknown. A packed lunch is strongly suggested, as is being prepared to do outdoors wees.
Is there any accomodation?
The organisers are likely to stay in a nearby campsite. We will let you know where, closer to the time. If you wish to camp, that's on you, you must book and pay for this yourself, and bring your own tent.
Are there any bail out points? I don't think I can ride all that way?
The route is out-and back. Due to this, if you're getting tired, you are more than welcome to turn around and head on back any time you feel like you need to.
Everybody is encouraged to come with serviced bikes, carry spare parts for their vehicles, and to help each other in the case of punctures/catastrophic failures.
There are no train stations on the route, but we are likely to park a car somewhere along the route, with a spare bike, and tools, for use in the unlikely event of catastrophic failure. We won't leave anybody stuck with broken wheels
