On 25th October 2022, a partial solar eclipse will occur over the UK. Over Watford, the sun will be covered by 25.9% of the moon. The first contact occurs at 10.08 with the peak (25.9%) at 10.59 am and finishing at 11.51 am. We will be in the park with some solar scopes from 9.30 am and you will be able to see the sun through the scopes.
It is IMPORTANT to note that you should never look at the sun, especially through a camera or telescope. It WILL damage your eyes.
We will show you how to safely look at the sun through a pinhole camera, through solar scopes and use filters on your telephoto lens.
You will be able to connect your camera to the scope/telescope to take a photo of the sun. Or use your mobile to take a photo of the projection onto a card from the pinhole camera.
This is all dependent on the weather!!

About South West Herts Astronomical Society
http://www.swhas.org
The Society was founded in 1968 to promote the science of astronomy and encourage popular interest in the subject. From September to May regular meetings are held in Rickmansworth, usually on the last Friday of the month. Illustrated talks are given on various aspects of astronomy, presented either by our own members or by visiting speakers. The Society is fortunate to have the use of a planetarium, where a monthly tour of the night sky is conducted.
The Society also owns its own observatory for use by members, and regular weekly observing sessions are held on Saturday nights. The observatory is equipped with an 11” Celestron Schmidt Cassegrain telescope as well as several smaller instruments and members can use these or their own instruments to observe from the site, which enjoys wide views of the sky with minimal light pollution. A monthly newsletter keeps members informed about the activities of the society and the observing sessions, and also includes summaries of the talks given at the monthly meetings.
Disclaimer
Looking at the sun for the partial eclipse is taken at your own risk.
