A partial lunar eclipse will be occurring on the evening of September 17, 2024! The eclipse will begin just after 8 PM on Tuesday night and will conclude at 1:00 AM Wednesday morning. Maximum will occur at 10:44 PM. You do not require any special equipment to view this lunar eclipse. It will be visible in the state of South Carolina and can be watched from your home. It will not be a dramatic change in appearance as a total lunar eclipse. The next total lunar eclipse will be on March 13, 2025.
Our observatory will be open to the public from 8 pm to 1 am for viewing the eclipse. This event is open to all FMU faculty, staff, & students, members of the public are also invited to attend. We will be set up on the open field area by the track to allow for the best viewing of the Moon by our telescopes.
Parking for the Observatory is in Lot D. There will be signs posted to direct you to the Observatory.
In the case of severe weather the event will be canceled.
