LE STAGE:

PARIS SUMMER TAP est le rendez-vous incontournable en Europe des amoureux du tap-dance. Ce grand stage annuel, initialement organisé à Barcelone dans le studio du Jimmy Slyde Institute, _lieu fondé par la chorégraphe franco-new yorkaise Roxane Butterfly, attire depuis 2012 des artistes en herbe venus du monde entier, amateurs comme professionnels. PARIS SUMMER TAP est une plongée dans la culture du tap-dance. Les stagiaires y consolident leurs connaissances sur les fondamentaux de la technique, mais aussi sur l'histoire et les courants artistiques qui ont influencé l'évolution du tap-dance de sa naissance à nos jours.

Cette année, la chorégraphe brésilienne Valeria Pinheiro (directrice de la compagnie VATA à Fortaleza) et le danseur guyanais Tamangoh (directeur de URBAN TAP CENTER INTERNATIONAL à Kourou), se joindront à Roxane pour 3 jours d'immersion exceptionnels au croisement du jazz et des rythmes sud-américains et amérindiens.

LES ARTISTES / PROFESSEURS

Roxane Butterfly est l'héritière directe des Original Hoofers avec lesquelles elle s'est initée à l'art du jazz-tap-dancing à New York. Surnommée Butterfly par le légendaire danseur de claquettes Jimmy Slyde, elle est la seule femme sa génération à avoir mené une carrière internationale en tant que soliste. Elle a partagé la scène des plus grands de son genre dont les illustres Nicholas Brothers, Gregory Hines et Savion Glover et a collaboré avec de nombreux musiciens dont Stanley Jordan, Ron Carter, Benny Powell et Phil Wood. Première femme de l'histoire du tap-dance à avoir obtenu le prestigieux prix Bessie Award (1999), Roxane a ouvert la voie aux femmes avec son collectif au féminin BeauteeZ'n The Beat. Fondatrice du Jimmy Slyde Institute, Roxane poursuit aujourd'hui son travail de pédagogue auprès du Pôle Supérieur Paris Boulogne Billancourt tout en mettant son geste artistique au service de la danse inclusive avec sa compagnie SmARTS,

Tamangoh revendique son appartenance à 3 cultures : africaine, européenne et amérindienne. Elevé en Guyane jusqu’à l’âge de huit ans par une grand-mère guérisseuse et prêtresse vaudou, Tamangoh est par la suite adopté par un baron belge à Paris. Il commence les claquettes à l’âge de 20 ans avec Sarah Petronio à l’American Center de Paris, puis s’installe à New York en 1987. Tamangoh est le fondateur et le directeur artistique de la Compagnie Urban Tap avec laquelle il s’est produit lors de nombreuses tournées internationales. Sa collaboration avec le chorégraphe hip hop Rennie Harris sur le spectacle « Cool Heat, Urban Beat » a tourné dans le monde entier pendant six années consécutives. En 2000, il reçoit le prestigieux prix Bessie Award et devient le pus jeune artiste à recevoir le Masters of African American Dance Award au Kennedy Center de Washington.

Valeria Pinheiro est la directrice de la Compania Va Tà qu'elle a fondé en 1994 à Rio. Ses créations puisent dans les danses traditionnelles du Nord-est brésilien et alllient au tap-dance musique, danse, théâtre et cirque pour donner forme à des spectacles hybrides uniques dans le genre qui ont tou Brrné partout au Brésil, ainsi qu'à Cuba, Chicago, New York, Miami, Alaska, Colombia et au Cap Vert. En 2004, elle ouvrait son propre studio/ theatre : Café Teatro das Marias à Fortaleza, qui est depuis devenu un lieu culture de référence au Brésil.

PARIS SUMMER TAP is the unmissable event in Europe for tap dance enthusiasts. This major annual workshop, originally held in Barcelona at the Jimmy Slyde Institute studio, ( a place founded by French-New York choreographer Roxane Butterfly), has been attracting upcoming tap-artists from around the world since 2012, both amateurs and professionals. PARIS SUMMER TAP is an immersion into tap dance culture where students can consolidate their knowledge of the fundamentals of technique, as well as their understanding of the tap-history and the artistic movements that have influenced the evolution of tap dance to the present day.

THE ARTISTS/TEACHERS:

Roxane Butterfly is the direct descendant of the Original Hoofers, with whom she learned the art of jazz tap dancing in New York City. Nicknamed Butterfly by legendary tap dancer Jimmy Slyde, she is the only woman of her generation to have had an international career as a soloist. A leading figure of the New York underground tap scene of the nineties, she has shared the stage with the greatest of her genre, including the illustrious Nicholas Brothers, Gregory Hines, and Savion Glover, and has collaborated with numerous musicians, including Stanley Jordan, Ron Carter, Benny Powell, and Phil Wood. The first woman in the history of tap dance to receive the prestigious Bessie Award (1999), Roxane paved the way for women with her all-female collective BeauteeZ'n The Beat. Founder of the Jimmy Slyde Institute in Barcelona, Roxane now continues her work as an educator at the Pôle Supérieur Paris Boulogne-Billancourt while expanding her expertise onto the inclusive-dance territory with her company SmARTS.

Tamangoh claims to belong to three cultures: African, European, and Native American. Raised in French Guiana until the age of eight by a grandmother who was a healer and voodoo priestess, Tamangoh was later adopted by a Belgian baron in Paris. He began tap-dancing at the age of 20 with Sarah Petronio at the American Center in Paris, then moved to New York in 1987. Tamangoh is the founder and artistic director of the Urban Tap Company, with which he has performed on numerous international tours. His collaboration with hip hop choreographer Rennie Harris on the show "Cool Heat, Urban Beat" toured worldwide for six consecutive years. In 2000, he received the prestigious Bessie Award and became the youngest artist to receive the Masters of African American Dance Award at the Kennedy Center in Washington. After a worldwide stage-career, to Tamangoh went back to his native Guiana to create the URBAN TAP CENTER INTERNATIONAL.
