Parho Book Club is a community dedicated to celebrating POC (People of Colour) authors, one book at a time. Parho means 'to read' in Urdu.
About this Event

We will be joined by a guest speaker, Salma Almidani. Salma Almidani is a PhD student and researcher focusing on migration, conflict, and health. Born and raised in Syria, her lived experience of displacement is what drove her to shed light on the experiences of those affected by displacement and its intersections with health. Beyond academia, she is passionate about advocacy for Syria and works with organizations in Northwest Syria on capacity building through mentorship and collaboration.

This event will offer attendees an opportunity to learn from Salma while also engaging in meaningful conversation as a group - diving deeper into insighful thoughts and opinions around the book: As Long As The Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh, story of love and loss set amid the Syrian revolution.

A light meal with dessert will be provided: Kibbeh, Falafel, Hummus Plate with Baklava and Ice- cream for dessert.

Located in Park Royal, London - A Syrian café ” Levant Book Café ” was opened by Sameh Asami who brought the Syrian sweet tooth to the UK and also uses his café to showcase the importance of books in Damascus.
