Parentification: How Childhood Trauma Impacts the Workplace

Dawn will discuss how we, as leaders, can create a positive work environment by learning to better understand our employees' lived experiences. Because if you think their trauma clocks out when they clock in, you're mistaken - it shapes how they respond to authority, communicate with others, and defines what they value. By understanding the unique strengths of the parentified workforce, leaders can harness their resilience while also protecting against burnout through healthy boundaries. Dawn will talk about accountability with love in a way that you have never heard before! Leadership isn't about coddling or making excuses, it's about meeting people where they are and guiding them to where you know their potential lies.
With almost two decades in HR, the majority of that time as a business owner, Dawn Sipley, President and Founder of Sipley the Best, has a deep understanding of the challenges in entrepreneurship. A UCF graduate, she's actively engaged in economic development, job creation and HR processes to streamline the recruitment process. Dawn has skillfully guided hundreds of Central Florida companies through thousands of hiring decisions, expertly negotiating compensation packages exceeding tens of millions of dollars.
Dawn is married to Jason Sipley, her high school prom date, and lives in Sanford with their two children, Tawn and Bray. As a family, Team Sipley enjoys the outdoors through paddle boarding, kayaking, camping, fishing, hunting, oystering, scalloping, foraging, and minimalist hiking. Dawn also serves Central Florida through volunteerism with a wide variety of nonprofits, schools, and jails to edify individuals who find themselves in the job market.
