WHY?
This is an event for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) where people who work in the public service come together to sing the top 10 waiata sung across the public sector and government. We want to do this
1. to celebrate Te Reo Māori, and 50 years of Te Wiki o Te Reo,
2. to celebrate 40 years Te Taura Whiri (Māori Language Commission) has been operating,
3. to encourage the use of Te Reo in a positive, fun and educational setting that everyone can access for free, and
4. to lift the spirit of New Zealanders and visiters in a way that is uniquely ours.
HOW?
We will be bringing our guitar, our projector screen and word handouts for us to do some well facilitated singing, dancing, and kapa haka for everone to participate in. We will also enjoy a shared kai as a bonus to compliment our experience together.
WHERE?
We are privileged to partner with our DIA whānau where they have generously welcomed us and this kaupapa to the National Library here in Pōneke. We will be enjoying each other’s company at the main entrance area just outside of the He Tohu display.
WHEN?
This will be a 1 hour event (2 hour occupation for set up and pack down) Friday September 19th from 12:30-1:30pm (12-2pm).
We anticipate approximately 100+ people to come together for an hour of singing, and light refreshments with whanaungatanga.
WHAT?
ParaiYAY Waiata Jams is a kaupapa that is lead by kaimahi of the Public Service for all to enjoy.
