Dive deep into the ancient art of painting on water and pull your own one of a kind, mesmerizing prints. This all-day workshop gives historical context and hands on, step-by-step instructions so that by the end, students will know how to make their own marbled paper in both the accessible Japanese tradition, as well as the more involved and visually familiar Turkish tradition.
Students start by learning the art of suminagashi, the Japanese traditional technique of floating ink on water. You will also learn to marble using paint and thickened water on paper using a mordant. You will practice a variety of raking techniques, and build up your pulling skills.
