Cleanup everyone do their share (or more)
Do you own a bunch of climbing gear, canyoneering equipment, a harness, some biners, a rope? How about a trash bag?????
Seriously folks, recently I went to a place locally known as Papago Tempe Park, and to climbers known as “Beaver wall & Hobo House” to scout it for rap wall practice.
Three things
1. This park is beautiful and right along the 202 so super conveniently located. It has plenty of parking and a lovely little lake.
2. It has amazing opportunities for climbing, possible bouldering, and rappelling AND IT has been anchored really well in several spots. You can top rope this thing without ever climbing it.
3. Sadly, with local prominence comes local trash, this place is littered with cans, bottles, sexual prophylactics, clothing, and I even found a jar of creatine FULL for body builders.
The long and the short of it is I seriously doubt climbers left this trash here, and even with a cleanup I’m sure the trash will come back.
I plan on bussing out there sometime late afternoon Monday with my gear AND a couple giant trash bags! Since I have no vehicle I’ll be leaving whatever I collect at front of the park where I know the recreation dept can collect it. If ENOUGH people who care show up I’ll personally call Tempe and let them know that there is a large trash pile to pick up at the park.
So bring your gear (whatever you’re flavor) and bring a helping hand and let’s clean up the Beaver and the Hobo house and get some rock time in!
