Using green space in the urban context of Wedding in Berlin, *plan b* invite participants to this outdoor workshop to collectively envision another kind of green, urban world, one that might sustain us in an uncertain future? Building on techniques of perception and imagining developed by the environmental activist Rob Hopkins, pioneer of the transition movement and author of 'From What Is to What If', we use the radical, transformative power of our imaginations to assess what we already have and taste what is nearly in our grasp.
The workshop will take place at Art Laboratory Berlin, the surrounding area and the nearby Panke river. We will start by sharing knowledge about the plants that are useful for food. What food and medicine can we find in this urban landscape? Where could we build shelter? Source drinkable water? Once collective knowledge has been gathered, we start galvanising our collective imagination. What would it take to make this place even more useful? By the end of the workshop, we will have shared visions of an alternative near future
*plan b*, Sophia New and Daniel Belasco Rogers, have been working together as an artist duo for nearly 20 years. They met making experimental theatre but have established a daily practice of recording everywhere they go with a GPS for a decade and a half. They make objects, drawings, performances and carpets from this data. They also make participatory projects, audio and locative media projects and interventions in locations throughout Europe and have given workshops or taught in Canada, the US, Japan, China and Brazil. Their first solo exhibition was at Art Laboratory Berlin in 2012. They are currently Guest Professors at the Universität der Künste Berlin at Studium Generale, an interdisciplinary programme for students of all disciplines. They are keen gardeners, growing vegetables and herbs and recently took part in the Temporary Gallery's permaculture course for artists.
