About this Event
In partnership with the Bataan Legacy Historical Society, and in recognition of Filipino American History Month, the museum is hosting a special discussion recognizing Filipino Americans' contributions to the American Navy. Additionally, there will be a special recognition of Telesforo De La Cruz Trinidad, a Filipino sailor who was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1915, and for whom the Navy is naming an Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer. Introductory remarks will be made by Denise R. Krepp, Director, Director's Action Group (DAG), Naval History and Heritage Command, Washington, DC. A portable exhibit “From Stewards to Flag Officers” will be on display during the program. Closing remarks will be made by special guest, Rear Admiral Vic Mercado Jr. USN (Retired), former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy, Plans and Capabilities.

Note: Due to security requirements at the Washington Navy Yard, you will need to be escorted onto the base. If taking metro, get on the Green Line and exit the Navy Yard/Ballpark stop, then walk to the entrance at 11th and O Street SE (about 15 minutes). Plan to arrive at the entrance gate by 11am. Please be prompt. A museum educator will be at the entrance gate to bring you onto the base and to the museum (Bldg. 76). The last gate pickup will occur at 11:20 AM.
